I have seen no answers from the "everyone needs to learn a skin care routine" that don't boil down to "because you must look youthful and aesthetically pleasing and be fuckable at all times".

"Everybody should moisturize" I mean sure if your skin is feeling tight and itchy it'll make you feel better but otherwise it's not compulsory.

Human beings age and their skin gets wrinkles and scars. You are allowed to be human and do human things like aging and having the normal skin that comes along with that. You are allowed to not spend your money on a "skin care routine" to fight the clock.

And watching discourse on the left shift from "why the fuck are women required to do all this shit to perpetually look young" to "EVERYONE should be doing this shit to perpetually look young" over the last 30 years has been depressing as Hell.

Yeah I feel this: I still get guilty when I don’t wash my face every day and then I’m like...why?? It’s my damn skin. I want to avoid skin cancer but argh. And even though I have a routine I have been shamed by other women for not doing “the right one” (oil cleansing or w/e).

Like I want to just not have acne all the time and to avoid skin cancer, that’s it. I am really sus of all this stuff because so much of it seems pseudoscientific. I remember looking up stuff about oil cleansing and finding very little from a dermatological perspective.

And most of it was from beauty influencers promoting products.

I mean right now if I use moisturizer it is a recipe for painful cystic acne, second puberty is great.

Yeah cystic acne fucking sucks. Had it most of my life at this point. It’s the only reason I spent more money than usual on a product to get rid of them because the masks were making them so much worse, to the point where it was painful to move my jaw and mouth.

Yeah and it's not just my face but my back and shoulders as well which is extremely exciting. Love it.

Ughhh I’m sorry, that sucks. I only rarely get them on my back but they are so painful and itchy. Wish sometimes I could just lance them and get them to fuck off.
