I wonder if it’s because people don’t want to work for min wage dealing with a bunch of anti-maskers while they wait another three months until their age cohort is eligible for a vaccine?https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1391024978854924290 …

I find it absolutely appalling how the government says, oh yeah it’s time to open up! with no consideration of the young workers who are still waiting and wanting to get vaccinated.

Especially given how hostile the government is to the very idea that someone aged 30 or under might get a vaccine ahead of a 50 year old who WFH.

The age system works fine, but when society’s “essential” jobs and the places that all get reopened are front facing low pay work that are staffed by young folks, that is garbage.

To put things into perspective: my home province in Canada (Alberta, 4.372m ppl) just opened vaccinations to 30+ people yesterday. They blasted ahead of Ireland in terms of percentages of people vaccinated, but up to about two weeks ago they were about the same numbers.

The reason for this: they have done parallel vaccinations, and they have a wider number of places able to give vaccines: pharmacies and vaccination centres.

I have criticized the rollout there because their booking system has been poorly managed, and they keep blaming the feds for vaccine supply when pharmacists have said they often have too many vaccines for the number of people they can vaccinate.

And then other pharmacies have little supply, and there is no centralised booking system but rather relies on waitlists.

The other thing? Canadians also have a choice for vaccine. So my brothers got the AZ vaccine because they opened it up to 40+ but they could have waited a bit longer for Pfizer if they wanted.

Here, we’re still on 50s, the idea of parallel vaccinations is rejected with the exception of using J&J for certain groups.

And the government acts like having 24hr vaxx centres as ridiculous. I would walk as long as my body is able (maybe an hour, so like 10 km) for a vaccine, no matter the time. My body would hate me for it but I would do it.

I also hate the attitude people have towards others who get their vaccine early because their doctor went through the cohorts quickly and need to use their doses quickly. The more people vaccinated the better.

The problem is when you get wealthy doctors vaccinating their friends over say the custodial staff or others in a private hospital who would benefit from it.
