I am so angry about this Kzoo letter. But I am even more angry at people trying to act like they signed the letter because they support a hybrid conference model even though the letter is just railing against accessibility and never mentions a hybrid model.

I’ve never been able to afford to go to Kzoo because while IMS Leeds is more expensive for the fees, the airfare is cheaper than if I were to fly to Chicago from Ireland and then get to Kalamazoo somehow.

Attending conferences is difficult for me for several reasons: physically painful depending on the building accessibility and mentally demanding, it is hard with my ADHD to pay attention. Online conferences have been great because I can remain comfortable and engaged.

And in the context of COVID, acting like 2022 things will be back to “normal” is ridiculous. But even if the pandemic ends by then, this is so hostile to accessibility.

If you cared even a little bit about accessibility then you wouldn’t have signed that letter.

Yikes. I could not believe the audacity of calling for a "boycott" for public health reasons and really didn't think more than a handful of people would sign.

Yeah the version that was sent to me was a Microsoft Word doc that was somehow supposed to gain signatories and circulate and just had four signatories.
