So all of this has been particularly hard, because I was forced to get an extension on my PhD and had to go further into debt. I got a small stipend towards the end of my PhD but it was not enough to cover the living expenses I’ve had since September.

I have been active on Twitter and other online spaces because social media is the only feasible place for me to interact with those who aren’t my family/boyfriend.

It is frustrating then to be attacked for my activity on Twitter by a senior academic who is also very active on Twitter, as if it is okay to say or do whatever you want as long as you have tenure at a university.

He is claiming that his words are being distorted and that he is justified because I “doxxed” a sex worker. I did not dox anyone. I have never revealed the name or location of anyone for malicious means. I have never lied about him either, I have only ever shown his own words.pic.twitter.com/nDVIPgUpcL

These sorts of hateful comments are what I have to deal with. My GP agreed that I have ADHD based upon an assessment I had with her, but legally I must get a diagnosis from a psych before I can get an official dx.pic.twitter.com/nTZWXUQNJF

This kind of gatekeeping harms all disabled people and you should not have to explain yourself

You're right, I shouldn't. Yet I still feel some kinda shame when I don't have an official dx...even though it hasn't been possible to do so.

Let's consider the classist issues here too, it costs thousands to get a diagnosis privately or you can wait for years for a diagnosis on the NHS, & waiting lists have increased in large part due to exacerbation of symptoms for many due to (necessary) lockdowns. Again, it's gross

As an intl student in Ireland, I can only go private and it is very expensive. Can't even rely on a public system like I could back in Canada (where it might take a few years, similar to the NHS).

Absolutely. It's horrid from many levels, I'm sorry.
