@/Real_HistoryGuy (Prof Guy Halsall from @yorkmedieval) has posted disparaging comments about me and my work, claiming that my supervisor was saying I spent too much time on Twitter while writing my thesis.pic.twitter.com/tBKC3YWc9x

My supervisors have been incredibly supportive and helpful at this time, and not once have they ever monitored my social media presence or commented on it. They are professionals and I do not expect them to be gossiping about their PhDs with other academics.
However, even if it were the case, comments of this nature are so incredibly unprofessional, especially from a senior academic in my field. This is also not the first time he has attacked grad students.
I have had a very hard time during this pandemic between fearing getting COVID and worrying about my family, especially my parents. My mother works in supply chain and thus is an essential worker and my father has a heart condition for which he is having surgery soon.
This has added to my already very bad anxiety and depression alongside my undiagnosed and untreated ADHD, which I was going to try and sort out but then the pandemic happened. I already have chronic pain and other chronic conditions that are expensive to manage.
So all of this has been particularly hard, because I was forced to get an extension on my PhD and had to go further into debt. I got a small stipend towards the end of my PhD but it was not enough to cover the living expenses I’ve had since September.
I have been active on Twitter and other online spaces because social media is the only feasible place for me to interact with those who aren’t my family/boyfriend.
It is frustrating then to be attacked for my activity on Twitter by a senior academic who is also very active on Twitter, as if it is okay to say or do whatever you want as long as you have tenure at a university.
He is claiming that his words are being distorted and that he is justified because I “doxxed” a sex worker. I did not dox anyone. I have never revealed the name or location of anyone for malicious means. I have never lied about him either, I have only ever shown his own words.pic.twitter.com/nDVIPgUpcL
These sorts of hateful comments are what I have to deal with. My GP agreed that I have ADHD based upon an assessment I had with her, but legally I must get a diagnosis from a psych before I can get an official dx.pic.twitter.com/nTZWXUQNJF
I talked to my GP because of how much I was struggling. I am still struggling. I recommend reading what @ADHD_Alien and @blkgirllostkeys have said about getting diagnoses and self-diagnosis especially for girls and women who are often undiagnosed.
As an update, one person who was criticising my mental health did apologise for his comment, which I accept and appreciate, whether I agree or disagree about bad faith interactions on here.pic.twitter.com/Btsep53Z5n
