Agreed. This new vaxx plan is garbage.https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1377161973553455105 …

I'm torn. I can see the logic in it - is it better to find and vaccinate all e.g. teachers before moving on to the next group or vaccinate 2x or 3x the numbers in the same time based on age? Could mean a difference of months to full adult vaccination.

Problem is that at the snails pace they are already going it means people who are most “in society” will be the longest to wait for a vaccine. I understand vaccinating over 65s as a priority group: my parents are getting their vaccines based on this in Canada.

But their rollout is much faster. So here they keep wanting to reopen society, but how does that work when the people who will face the brunt of that will be unvaccinated?

They would argue (and again, I'm on the fence about who's right here but there's logic in the argument) that efficiency and speed are even more important given the initial slow roll-out. I think people are underestimating the admin nightmare that a profession-based rollout is.

I don’t really think it would be as difficult as they say. But again I doubt this is going to speed anything up. Maybe it will, if it makes it easier for GPs to collect a list, but since they were already partially doing aged based anyway (with HCWs) that still seems bungled.

I mean there needs to be some kind of overhaul, regardless, of how they contact people and the speed they are vaccinating people.

I think the difference is that the current delays are (primarily) supply-based, not admin-based. The Gov are taking Pfizer, AZ and J&J at their word and assuming those delays will be over by the end of April, so are trying to avoid replacing supply delays w/ admin delays.

Everyone I know who's been vaccinated said the contact, communication and appointment processes have been smooth and well-run. In the Gov's view, a profession-based roll-out risks jeopardizing that just as more supply comes on-stream.

I’m glad it went well for them, but I’ve seen several people say they still have heard nothing about their own vaccinations etc so I don’t know how much local health admin has an impact on that.
