Uhhhh I was like, 11 going on 12 and I was dialed into this discourse about how the war was most definitely bullshit. Who tf is saying otherwise?https://twitter.com/danielleiat/status/1373477145381642241 …

Very weird seeing people on the TL claiming “no one” knew the Iraq War was bullshit and remembering very clearly how actual teenagers definitely did

Also, I'm Canadian, we didn't join the war and there was a pretty strong anti-Iraq war sentiment in Canada. We were dialled into how fucking wrong it was ALL THE TIME.

Is this people trying to absolve themselves for being pro-war at the time? There's something to be said to owning up to your past opinions that you no longer agree with. Don't fucking lie about it.

It got kicked off by someone who was, I think, badly and provocatively phrasing 'don't flatter yourself, people who were too young at the time, you're not immune to propaganda and a lot of you would have fallen for it'

which I think could have been a helpful warning for people to bear in mind about, you know, current potential subjects of US imperialism, but it was poorly and provocatively stated, like I said, and it set everyone off.

I mean there's not being immune to propaganda (true) and legitimately knowing that the war was bullshit when it was happening and being a kid (also true).

That's what set everyone off; the op said 'many of you' and people (honestly, I think fairly) read 'all of you'. It was a uselessly provocative way to phrase it, unless all they were really after was attention. Which is very possible.

I just read through her thread aaaaaand she is setting it up as Americans believing propaganda against China (read: CCP) about Xinjiang. So that is...bad.

Regarding the WMDs, I recall really early on that there was no evidence for them and it was like screaming into the void about it tbh. As a kid seeing that on the news, it seemed absolutely fucking bonkers to me,
