thank you for the HT – and many thanks to everyone involved in drafting this! There's a lot to balance and I think you found that balance well. I look forward to hear an equally well-considered response from the IMS, particularly also with regards to the implications for the IMC.

Thanks so much for your support! The IMC is institutionally separate, and as far as I understand has already voted not to use the term. But I would hope they also decide to make that a public decision for the same reasons as outlined here

right! as your latter points out, had I seen a statement, I wouldn't have thought they hadn't taken a position (concluding this from the inaccurate use of the term in titles on the current programme)

@IMC_Leeds should produce a public statement, but the programme doesn't have any AS titles. AS is there from people from Cambridge's department info and a few individual papers (not Leeds). Can we rally to get Cambridge to change ASNAC and continue to push this in wider circles?

As you refused to sign this letter I am a little confused as to why you are in the replies asking for people to rally

I refused to sign the letter because it insinuated that Leeds is still using the term when they are not and asked you to make changes. You know this very well, among the other changes I suggested and could post. I don't see why you feel the need to try and shame me.

I am unsure where the letter makes this "insinuation" from the perspective of someone just reading it, but calling for a public statement is not shaming. I also think that if you refused to sign it but are in the replies asking for ASNAC to make changes, that seems strange.

I meant that I am being shamed for not signing it when Florence and I had a long conversation about changing the letter to make it clearer - Like, for example, get ASNAC to change their name or have Leeds publicly say why they stopped using the term.

I saw your tweet before you deleted and changed it, you said this letter was shaming the university. It doesn't seem that way to me at all, and in fact seems to just be asking for some accountability.

To that point, if you are asking Leeds to say publicly why they have stopped using it, that seems exactly in the spirit of this letter.
