Why on earth is @IMC_Leeds charging most ppl £120 and £75 for students for a digital conference? As you RT excited participants how do you expect their colleagues, classmates & others to be able to afford to hear them? Y'all are greedy elitists. #medievaltwitter #AcademicChatterpic.twitter.com/4PwlrLeBTY

Many digital conferences have organizer running the show. Also, a lot of meeting/societies already booked venues years in advance and may have to pay a cancellation fee.

The attendees shouldn’t be responsible for those fees if that’s the case.

Maybe not, if the society that you belong is paying tens-hundreds of thousands, where is that going to come from? Its members. It is still part of the cost of this years meeting. But yes, a digital meeting is a good opportunity to let students/international attend for free.

Well again, I don’t know where it’s going to come from but it should not be on attendees. I don’t know what point you’re trying to make. Leeds was free last year, or nearly. It was clear early on that they couldn’t have it at Leeds uni. If the uni is making their own conf pay

Also this. I heard that hosting it at Leeds was apparently very expensive. Well they aren't hosting it physically anymore, so I want to know exactly what things do cost so we can make a value judgement.
