Reading a fic in which Steve Rogers is genderqueer and upset at the way his body became more stereotypically masculine after the serum and nope, I'm tapping out. Cannot do the self-hate.

Where's the fic where Steve is, in fact, a trans dude? Because if you want to get all allegorical about the serum, that is definitely a way to take it and it would extremely soothe my soul right now.

But given the pressure to never be too masc, to always be just delicately androgynous, maybe a soft boi or a femme boy at most, that currently pervades culture both cis and genderqueer... I am noping out on fic that is all "my stereotypically masc body is disgusting"

We really, really need to interrogate why the only queer masculinity we're comfortable with is someone who is AFAB, skinny, white, and with naturally small breasts taking on the mannerisms of a perky stereotypical camp teen boy gay best friend.

I can't speak for trans women but the invisibility of eg butch trans women suggests to me that they, too, are experiencing pressure to restrict their gender expression. Which is also extremely not fair to them.

Anyway I'm gonna go do a bunch of push ups, throw some hay bales, and light a candle for a beard I can hide a cat in just to annoy everyone who thinks non-binary people should be delicately androgynous.
