Keep in mind I was a kid at the height of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, and only knew one man who died personally, when I was 17 in the mid 90s.

And that these kids really don’t know, they don’t get it. I remember the panic still about AIDS when I was little, how long people fought for marriage. And I still didn’t know a word for myself until I was 15 and I had no one else except another friend, my age.
