Hey Academia friends/mutuals, I'm looking for someone who might be able to help to give advice to a friend of a friend and this is something I don't have any experience with.
Well this depends on their institutional structure but there should be some kind of ombudsman or higher up they can go to in order to switch supervisors.

I know someone who finished their PhD after having a supervisory breakdown but it was in the final year and they were just writing etc and were able to get feedback elsewhere.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Yeah I would have assumed this was the case, I think what they probably need is someone with some experience who could reassure them (and/or warn them about pitfalls), if there's anyone I could help them get a connection to.

As far as I know I don’t think there are any career pitfalls. Your references after the PhD depend more on your examiners and lots of people have a bad relationship with their supervisor and cut contact after. I don’t really have anyone they can talk to specifically though.
