People are really out here saying that medieval studies does decolonization work when I still see scholars in the UK using slurs against Indigenous people and acting like they no longer exist.

You don’t get to claim that you do decolonization work but not actually know what that means.

This field is literally so inherently hostile to BIPOC students and academics who have been publishing and talking about it forever and attempts to decolonize the field and/or do antiracist work and they get so much garbage from their white colleagues on it.

Because either they claim Britain isn’t racist or they want to equivocate something about Irish people as if there isn’t a racism problem in Ireland against Black and Brown Irish folks so you get an absurd about of whataboutism.

Reminder that white people in the UK and Ireland should absolutely not call themselves Indigenous, or use that word to describe historical peoples. It is not neutral and it is an identity you don’t get to claim. It’s also something white supremacists call themselves.
