I don't know what your situation is with regards to citizenship. Maybe you were born with citizenship. For me, it took me over a decade to get naturalized. Over a decade of interviews and standing in lines and paperwork. And that was before GWB made it harder for folks after me.

What does that have to do with his dual (maybe triple) citizenship? I'm not saying he shouldn't have citizenship in the country he lives in. He doesn't live or work in Canada and is now recognized as a terrorist in that country.

My point, as I have said all along, is that I am leery of stripping citizenship as a punishment (whether someone lives or works there or not), because the precedent will almost always be used as a cudgel against POC more.

And my point is that he has no reason to have the right to dual citizenship as someone who literally formed a recognized terrorist organization. You all can keep him and be happy that he has citizenship there.

My point is, actions will invariably have consequences, and if history is any guide, the consequences will fall more heavily to POC and marginalized folks. This is not, I think, a controversial or difficult to grasp notion.

Indeed. His actions should have consequences as a terrorist. "terrorist" isn't "immigration fraud" so you can stand by him all you want, but he doesn't need dual citizenship and you keep sidestepping that point.

Yeah, I agree with this. He does not need citizenship in Canada, we don't want him, he's a terrorist.

I may be misremembering but citizenship and threats of it being taken away is already something that happens in Canada to POC. That should not happen of course, but calling for a white terrorist to have his citizenship stripped I don't think is going to lead to a slippery slope.

Calls for it, sure. Having more precedents on the books could however make future court cases easier, and I certainly wouldn't trust a future Tory government not to abuse that. (I also think it's easier for the long arm of Canadian law to reach him if he retains citizenship.)

Yeah well they haven't done shit against him have they? And again, this is already happening to POC. It does not happen to white terrorists, but frankly it should since THEY are the threat. A Tory gov't will already be anti-immigration.

Like if you think that stripping a white terrorist not born in Canada of his citizenship is gonna make it easier to do the same to POC then look up Omar Khadr and stop arguing with Dr MRO about this.

Yeah there's a lot of sympathizing w/ some wyte terrorist who has dual citizenship who could easily skip out of the US and live comfortably in Canada. Anywho, I have an article due soon and would rather write that than argue over a wyte terrorist's right to have dual citizenship

Had dropped the discussion earlier since I broadly agree, just disagree about tactics and some vaguer future implications thereof. Khadr is an interesting example tho because it was ultimately his Canadian citizenship that helped free him from the Kafkaesque nightmare of Gitmo.

Definitely hope one way or another we see McInness and others like him stand trial. Might help shut up some of the racists here in Canada who *still* yammer on about Khadr and us "letting terrorists into our country". Oh who am I kidding…still, wish they'd face ANY consequences.
