historians and archaeologists that have to soak all their commentary in alcohol to be funny or interesting or engaging are not the types of people i want as my collaborating colleagues but y’all do you i guess

there is like no room for events not centered around alcohol in most grad programs...and at conferences...and apparently on podcasts on here so think of how exclusionary those events are to people trying to stay sober or people who do not imbibe for whatever reason

yeah as much as I enjoy the pub this is a big thing and the pressure to drink is high, and this is not acknowledged enough in academia that the pub shouldn't have to be the go-to.

our archaeology pub in sheffield was literally twenty yards away from the door and every class ended there. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
