And then using examples of an unpublished thesis that doesn’t cite a single BIPOC scholar but does talk about how racist a lot of scholarship was 80 years ago on the subject (lots of Nazis in the field).
When white supremacists are jumping on this to complain about “wokeism” and that isn’t your focus then that is a problem.
In addition, I want to be clear that anyone losing their job in academia is terrible, and during a pandemic even worse. I find it extremely disturbing that a university is defending cuts in this manner.
It seems like just an excuse to look progressive or whatever when it would not surprise me if gender and race studies at Leicester were also underfunded and not well respected.
