The ONE bad opinion I cannot hear without smashing my fist down on a table is that shops that sell home improvement items (B&Q, Wilko, Homebase) should be closed during lockdown. SOMEONE HAS NEVER NEEDED AN EMERGENCY BOTTOM ENTRY BALL VALVE AND IT SHOWS.

For real though, what are people going to do if they can’t get batteries, bulbs, screws etc at short notice? Your toilet flush breaks, what do you do? Oh it’s okay I’ll just wait the 72 hours it will take for a new one to arrive while recreating Shrek’s swamp in my bathroom

Yeah DIY and hardware stores are definitely essential. Not only are they one of the few places that sells more heavy duty cleaning stuff but the types of lightbulbs I need either not sold at Tesco or are often sold out if they do have them.

Being able to go to a DIY store at short notice is something people take for granted until the ONE moment you reaaaaallly need something. Our kitchen light bulb stopped working a few months ago and it’s a strip light. Try cooking dinner without one when it gets dark at 4pm!

oh absolutely. I'm grateful there is DIY store around the corner from my flat because all the hardware stores are otherwise way too far away to go to.
