I agree with you entirely. I think you're arguing with something you imagine I've said rather than what I've actually said.

Then why are you crying about their hope for a better world?

Because I'd rather they hoped for something other than fascism?

I just think that singling out their hope rather than their hate (in fact, claiming she has no hate, and thus equating behaviour with bad intent, a tactic of respectability politics) is a bad way to respond to someone involved in a fascist coup.

Yeah we can all hope they aren't fascists, but they are, they made their choice. It's one thing to be upset if a family member is a Trump supporter. But a stranger part of an armed coup? No.

And again, regardless of your personal feelings on fascism, maybe consider why there might be objections to this instead of claiming we're reading into things that aren't there.

You seem to have taken my statement of deep, existential sadness that some people think fascism will make their lives better, as apologia for fascism. I'm sorry I gave that impression, but I'm not sure what more I can say or do to to assure you otherwise.

Maybe clarify why you are concerned with their "hope for a better world" and why that matters at all instead of interrogating how deep these attitudes run.

I'm not concerned with their hope for a better world. I'm concerned that they have hope for something horrific. I also don't really see why you'd read anything I've said as antithetical to any account of deep rooted attitudes. I've clearly expressed myself poorly.

Again: my sadness is that she hopes for fascism. I'm sure that's a sadness you share. That sadness does not require that I exculpate her or the society, culture or contexts which generated her fascism. Indeed, my sadness encompasses the existence of those conditions.

Stop responding to me and address Florence’s points. You are ignoring them and me telling you to address them and it is very transparent.
