The starting point is "How can I make things better". Following Trump is after that. Please don't read this as apologia. It's the opposite. The point is: there's energy here, there's desire here, there's hope here. I'm crushed it's directed the way it is.

If you cannot see how those that follow Trump are at their core, bigots and that they're better world is literally rooted in white supremacy and that Trump did not start the racism that was already endemic in America then I have no idea what else to say.

Let me be very clear: these people were already racist. They were already bigots. It's why they followed Trump in the first place but if you honestly think this only started happening in the last four years and it's embedded in the national consciousness...wow.

I agree with you entirely. I think you're arguing with something you imagine I've said rather than what I've actually said.

Then why are you crying about their hope for a better world?

Because I'd rather they hoped for something other than fascism?

I just think that singling out their hope rather than their hate (in fact, claiming she has no hate, and thus equating behaviour with bad intent, a tactic of respectability politics) is a bad way to respond to someone involved in a fascist coup.

Yeah we can all hope they aren't fascists, but they are, they made their choice. It's one thing to be upset if a family member is a Trump supporter. But a stranger part of an armed coup? No.

I definitely care that people are Trump supporters rather than, you know, not being Trump supporters. Not sympathetically, but politically. It fucking *matters* that people choose fascism. The fact that people choose fascism upsets me. I'm sure it upsets you too. Stop.

Okay, obviously this is just a conversation between you and Catherine because I've tried politely engaging you twice in this discussion and been ignored. So I will 'stop'.

I'm disengaging too, since this isn't going anywhere. But you made good points and it is frustrating they were not addressed.
