I sort of feel like if a vast number of people are telling you that forcing your child to learn a tool in order to eat is shitty then you should self reflect here.
6 hours is not a massive time between meals although as a kid I always needed to eat something small between lunch and dinner.

If your kid is crying and saying their head is fuzzy after 6 hours of trying to use a can opener, that sucks. And all the people praising this, as parents, really need to think about this from the kid’s perspective.

I know this would be something I’d resent and demand an apology for when I am older. You might all think this is some hilarious story where she learned a skill and therefore the benefits outweigh everything.

I’d bet she will never see it that way, and small things my parents did to teach me stuff but misfired I was upset about for a long time.
