definitely a range from 1492 - 1865 to present. My American ancestors settled pretty early, whereas my Canadian ancestors are more from the 19th c. to 20th c.

definitely have a lot of ancestors who were in the civil war, and I think possibly the revolutionary war. But I do have one AfAm ancestor, but I know nothing about his parentage which makes me think he was an enslaved person, or his parents were. He lived in New Hampshire.

that’s so heartbreaking, but you are here thriving and that’s a testament to him. my indigenous side seems to have also intermarried with west african folx, but we cannot trace specific people, only later clues from casta-related spanish docs.

I wish I knew more about him, but this is I think the story of many people's ancestors if they were enslaved, displaced, etc.

trying to learn family history can be very sad but also rewarding, and I know how much privilege I have to be able to locate so much of my family history as I can.

Definitely and I think it’s something that my fellow white people need to get with the program on, that being able to trace fanily back generations is not something available to many.
