something new can definitely be a new perspective on something that has been written about before. I mean...there are so many new ways to approach something. Even something like comparative analysis, which is my main methodology, is still underutilized in a lot of fields.
but you're definitely right about that originality thing. The civil war stuff reminds me also of the crusades, or say all the publications on various English kings. Do we really need another biography of so-and-so?

Yes, I understand. As for whether or not your words are worth hearing, they absolutely are. In my experience there will always be someone, somewhere, who will get really excited when they see what you've written on, who will think "yes! finally, someone has written on x"
