I guessed something like this, but did not want to assume. Thank you!

Or maybe they just feel comfortable using he and they interchangeably as this aligns best with how he feels about and wants to describe themselves. I wish we didn't have to make this into a biggie to analyse

This. Pronouns have a function in language, they’re not a window into a person’s specific feelings on gender. I’ve never met 2 people who use ‘they’ who have the same conception of gender. It’s ok to respect pronouns without knowing/intrusive guessing about how the person feels

That is something the many different responses here have made clear to me. I was mostly trying to figure out which I was supposed to use between he or they or if it meant using both each time. I have not encountered both pronouns before as a preference and did not wish to offend.

I also have no idea what @jamesd_todd said here, but I’m guessing I did something wrong. All I wanted to know was what the appropriate term to use was, as I had not seen the shorthand he/they before. I attempted to ask as respectfully as possible, and I am sorry I offended.

Offended? I entered into a discussion with insight about pronouns, as a non-binary person with lived experience, and it seems my perfectly polite comment has been construed as confrontational? I don't understand why. Would you prefer trans people didn't weigh in?

Sorry, I saw your other tweet and was worried after I saw a blocked tweet above yours in the chain that I missed earlier. I thought you meant me in your other tweet and wanted to make sure I had apologized

Ah I see. My other tweet was referencing a sentiment I've seen elsewhere all over the place over the last day, but nothing you have said. James has a locked account so perhaps he hasn't blocked you. I don't know

Thank you, I had been worrying about it most of today and was trying to think of what the appropriate thing to do was. I am sorry to have gotten it wrong and come across confrontational, I’m sure you don’t need more of that.

I probably spend too much time reading into tweets. I’m not sure I spend the right amount of time wondering if I’ve behaved like an idiot.

Chris, respectfully, it is inappropriate to really publicly beat yourself up over this especially at a non-binary person, who did not subtweet you. Just apologize and move on, and work on your feelings about this in your own time.
