teaching on the Black Death right now is something else. Even just reading Boccaccio's account, a text I've read a million times before as well...it's rough man.

I know this isn't exactly news, but I didn't really expect this to hit me as hard as it did, reading through this.

I taught it this spring, and it was sooooo different emotionally than any other time I’d encountered it. Students really responded well to it, but we all kept tracing it back to Our Lives Now.

I suspect this may be hard to teach tomorrow. We'll see how it goes, but knowing students in my class have already had COVID also, I hope no one gets upset.

I hope it goes well! It's a tough text right now, but I think a lot of them are eager to talk about it and their lives. I offered them an alternate text when I taught it, for those didn't want to discuss Plague, but almost no one took me up on it.

Well, this is their tutorial so I don’t have any choice myself but to teach it to them, and we’re doing excerpts of a few texts. So hopefully it’s not too bad.
