teaching on the Black Death right now is something else. Even just reading Boccaccio's account, a text I've read a million times before as well...it's rough man.

Last semester, I was scheduled to teach the Black Death just as the pandemic was gaining strength. Students were very fragile as we had just moved to on-line. I made the decision to skip it. This semester, I did teach it, and it was very poignant.

I taught it this spring, and it was sooooo different emotionally than any other time I’d encountered it. Students really responded well to it, but we all kept tracing it back to Our Lives Now.

I suspect this may be hard to teach tomorrow. We'll see how it goes, but knowing students in my class have already had COVID also, I hope no one gets upset.
