Like all shorthand, it's imperfect, and once you start getting down in the weeds things get messy. They always do down there. But it's a good starting point to talk about radical equality and civic participation and relationship to means of production.

This is really important. Whenever I say I’m a communist people get really shocked and they’re like, well does that mean you want to get rid of the government??? And I’m like, well okay it’s complicated. But they don’t want to listen to the nuances.

But I find that when people do make it an identity (like I have seen, say, a lot of tankies do)...like it’s impossible to have a conversation with them.
