It certainly can be, but what about the historians whose work is about uncomfortable truths that deconstruct the “nation”, BIPOC historians whose work and their position in academia is ignored and shut down because they don’t toe the line of creating a national history?
I do know historians who still write history that promotes nationalism, but they are white, privileged, middle-class. Ostensibly left wing or progressive but their work gets held up by white supremacists. But there are many who don’t do this, and they get so much shit for it.
