It is a long and not edifying story in which I was accused of bullying a grad student. Suspect he will be ok.

What a [repugnant individual]* - presumably other grad students can say that without complaints of punching down. Genuinely horrid to revel in that particular accomplishment. * Sanitised for Twitter

Hi there! Just popping in to say the tweets are juxtaposed to make it look like I replied that to her -- I did not, you can look at the time stamps if you're worried. Original tweet attached for context.https://twitter.com/HalstedMedieval/status/1307877881306132482 …

I was not, in fact, having fun this weekend. That was sarcasm. You may now continue dunking on me.

So I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that Caroline’s apologies to Chris were actually not genuine and now you’re just directing more harassment to him. Well done, you’re all so brave. You could have said nothing Caroline and minded your business.

He asked for a pdf of a Boydell book in his library that he cannot access physically b/c pandemic. Ppl tried to shame him for asking for a pdf to work on his dissertation. Then the alt-medieval fringe decided to jump on that. Including the senior prof who called him a “t*at”.

It has been 5+ days of this on here. So if you actually believe in equity, feminism, and not shaming jr. scholars with toxic slurs or shaming them since they can not afford to purchase a book, then consider what you are doing now. If you have a permanent post buy him the book.

Exactly. But it was never about that. We said over and over that Chris was never going to buy the book, library access is truncated because of the pandemic. What else are we supposed to do? I am open to suggestions aside from shelling out € I don’t have for books.

But the goalposts were moved with every tweet. If publishers are relying on grad students to make money then that seems like a poor business model.
