We've got to the point in the pandemic where I'm now googling "How to add more RAM to laptop". I miss No Man's Sky and ARK, and I could do with the escapism. On the other hand, the prospect of taking this apart is slightly terrifying given how much I rely on it!

(The laptop was advertised as 8GB. But apparently 2GB of that is on the video card, which... I don't quite understand, but anyway. It's a solid work laptop, but considerably slower than my original machine. I'm glad to have it, I'm just curious if improvements are plausible.)

If it’s a newer machine you should be able to switch it out. But if you look up the machine and check the specs to see if it has free slots that should tell you. But just be careful and make sure there’s no static.

That is reassuring, ta! According to what I found there's just the one slot, so it would be swapping out rather than adding. It seems like it should be doable - I just don't think of myself as "technical", the last time I added RAM it was taking my first PC from 16MB to 32!

Never done it myself but when my last laptop died and I had to take out the hard drive, it was easy enough to open it. I needed a tiny screwdriver though.

But yeah switching the ram out shouldn’t be that hard.
