I just don't understand how so much academic output was ceded to private companies with no benefit to the people actually doing (and even funding!) the work. Indeed, which was said frequently. We got a bunch of “I’m sorry it’s hard right now, it’s why our press does X!” But many were not, and called it “illicit” and said my friend was a thief. One of the people was insulting the idea of open access.

as to all the tweets about pdf file sharing like its a bad thing. Who wouldn’t do it? I’m assuming this is why certain publishers won’t let us have final proofs for OUR OWN WORK lest we share it.
