I agree. My tweet said that a large, profit-hungry university and a small, employee-run company are not the same thing. Nothing more.

So what is the point of this discourse when a grad student can't afford any of it?

Gearoid said that they were the same thing. But they're not at all the same. We should be upfront about where the $$$ is in higher education.

I have no issue with pdf-sharing by grads and precarious or unemployed staff, espec during Covid.

Well good. We're on the same page. Better tell Stephen Bennett because he clearly thinks COVID is no excuse for any sharing, lol.

Stephen Bennet is wrong. We all like books here. If you can afford a book, buy it. If you can't, borrow it, either from a friend or from a library.

At what point did I state you couldn’t lend a book that you own with somebody else? Passing across illicit pdfs is not the same as ‘lending a book’

I appreciate that you see it as a bad thing. And yet everyone does it, especially now, during Covid. But do you see distinctions and exceptions, or is it always an equally bad thing on each and every occasion?

In my experience, publishers like B&B are very understanding, especially at the moment, and authors open to genuine requests for help. Has getting illicit copies of complete works off third parties really become the norm at your uni?

No point in trying to reason with this one, he’s a vile sort who is part of a FB group dedicated to sharing screenshots of Dr MRO and anyone associated with her.
