I don't know Lucy, but putting the burden on precarious people isn't going to get you very far. So once again, if this bothers you so much, feel free to contact universities yourself.

I have. As a precarious scholar, who has been a precarious scholar since 2014 and a PhD student before that, I have spent over a decade doing this. If you would like to join in, please, do.

I keep on trying to ask universities to extend their access rights. I keep on trying to push at permanent staff to acknowledge that those of us who don't have access *cannot* be expected to act as if we do.

Well if my examiners tell me I have to go through corrections to add references because I couldn't get access to books right now I'll let them know that.

Well, do that, then? That's allowed for a PhD. It's an allowance the rest of us don't generally have.

I can say it, but it might not be looked well at, is the point.

I'm sorry, that must feel really frightening. I believe - and I do hope - that universities will make genuine allowances here. I can't imagine they won't.

I think in general, with a PhD thesis, if all that's wrong is that you can't get access to a source, they won't fail it and they will make allowance.

Well we can hope that my examiners are kind. Other PhDs haven't been so lucky with being given minor corrections to add in one source that wasn't even relevant to the thesis.

I hope it goes well. And, I'm sorry, I'm going to leave it here as it's late - but I really don't mean to make you or anyone else feel bad. I just feel angry that universities don't provide proper access for everyone.

Lucy, I'm angry too. I look up an ebook and I can only access it on campus. But that is a problem that shouldn't be leveled at Chris or myself. Honestly, go take it up with them. Like we're run ragged from having to explain this.
