Question for those who have published theses or monographs with maps: is there a good programme for making a map? I've never been sure how they are made exactly, and no one has ever told me. #medievalhistory #AcademicChatter

I think it depends what kind of map you want. In my book I had a very simple one (just two shades) that I put together in a regular image editor. For more fine-grained stuff, I can recommend QGIS: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/ But I'm no pro.

Definitely QGIS... It is a good intro to using shapefiles and plotting data points on a map
