It's great to hear that free regular testing will be available to ensure that we can tackle COVID-19 head on and so that the entire college community is kept safe this coming year!https://twitter.com/universitytimes/status/1303994960254033921 …

This will NOT keep the entire college community safe if it is only available to those who live in uni accommodation. I'd wager most of the staff and students live off campus and rent privately.

Not to mention how many people flatshare in the current housing crisis, or how many people need to commute in. No one's walking to campus from Santry, and if masks aren't being 100% adhered to on public transport then what about those risks?

What about any asymptomatic people who come to campus and don't wear a mask? There are already people not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly or taking them off. Or lecturers who have to wear face visors? Those won't protect for spread.

Hi, we can assure you that testing will be available to all members of the college community and not just residents. We can't control what people do off-campus but this testing will help to track cases.

The email says quite clearly that it will only be available to staff and students who live on campus accommodation.

I wasn’t asking you to control transport etc. I was saying that only testing those who live on campus will not catch all cases because not everyone lives on campus. Our safety is important too.

I'm sorry that we don't have a clearer answer on this and your concerns are completely understandable. Testing will be piloted on a trial basis to residents with a view to expanding the capacity at a later date.

Yes, I know what the email said. My problem is that everyone should have access to this immediately, and it is frustrating that both of our student unions aren't transparently pushing for this.
