One thing that is really frustrating to me right now, and it’s something that I have discussed, is this idea that PhD students who supply so much labour to universities are just not kept in the loop about plans for teaching and reopening.

I suspect (for TCD; I know for other unis) that often staff are often as out of the loop as PhD students are. They may hear more rumours/possibilities via word of mouth, but official confirmation seems to come to staff about 2-4 hours before it goes to students (incld. PhDs)

There are a number of things about the College’s response to Covid that staff have found out by reading the newspaper or the Provost’s tweets. Not this particular point though.

I'm not surprised by this. Cf. the similar situation over the weekend where A Ní Shúilleabháin first heard the UCD prez 'apology' via the media. Seems to be a widely-used university comms strategy.....

Yeah, that is frankly not okay for people to find out vital info (and apologies for a terrible thing!) via the press.
