Kids have started going back to school. There is no remote learning. Children are required to take off their masks during class for some godawful reason. This is going to be a disaster, and no matter how bad it gets, they’re not going to shut the schools again because “economy."https://twitter.com/Nadine_Writes/status/1302733649947713538 …

I can’t actually express how fucked it is. Here are pictures: one from my youngest’s mandatory orientation, where bringing a parent was required. The other is of the masking rules, which also stresses that wearing masks is occasionally permissible, but never mandatory.pic.twitter.com/o15QmXha2P

Parents weren’t allowed into the classrooms on the tour as part of the hygiene requirements(?), but we WERE shown that our kids will literally be sharing desks.pic.twitter.com/HgJUoQ2ZN6

Again: there’s no option for kids to learn remotely. The FAQ on the website for my kid’s school just reminds everyone that unexcused absences will lead to fines. The UK just had its highest daily count of new cases since JUNE.

The school insists it will be fine because they’ve divided each school year into its own “bubble.” My kid’s bubble, including teachers (who may or may not be teaching multiple “bubbles”), has about 100 people in it. That’s not a fucking bubble.

I realize that the schools are mostly just following guidance, although they clearly have a lot more latitude to be safer than they’re using; things aren’t nearly this bad at my oldest kid’s school. I don’t want to go full Karen about this at them. But it is SOME BULLSHIT.
