The old raccoon was greying along his nose and it was hard to see in one eye. But he still appreciated the bright red of the shiny apple his grandbaby brought him, and he relished washing it in the cool water of the pond by his den. As he bit into the crisp fruit, he was happy.

Aaaaa, mine was stolen! How about the oldest stag in the herd?

The stag was ancient. No one else knew just how old he was, but the marks on his hide and the look in his eyes showed that he had faced many dangers. Everyone in the herd respected and feared him, but he was always gentle with the little ones when he told them old tales.

The possum was new to the world, and he didn't know of what to make of the big trees and little critters that surrounded him. But he knew he was safe as he clung to his mother's back with his siblings, as she took careful steps throughout the woods.

Rat snake

The rat snake had her special perch on her favourite tree. From this spot, she knew she was safe. The sun hit the branch in just the right way in the late afternoon, and she coiled happy around to settle in for her nap. She heard other animals below, but she gave them no mind.
