I think that there certainly needs to be a discussion about how the dichotomy between "pagan oral texts" and "written Christian texts" needs to be completely dismantled. The debate still goes on in early medieval Irish studies, unfortunately.

Do you have any citations or recommended reading on this (pseudo) dichotomy idea? Unfortunately I am not a literature person, but this idea is smack dab in the middle of my dissertation research right now.

I would absolutely recommend Literacy and Identity in Early Medieval Ireland by Elva Johnston and “Reapproaching the Pagan Celtic Past - Anti-Nativism, Asterisk Reality and the Late-Antiquity Paradigm” by Jonathan M. Wooding. But unfortunately there isn’t much else.

I don’t know of any discussions for elsewhere either, the problem is hardwired into Irish historiography though.
