Irregular reminder to my british followers that in most of the USA, especially outside of major cities, not only is carrying a knife legal, it is also just A Thing That People Do

when I was a kid I brought a whole serrated knife to cut my kiwi at lunch and no one gave a shit. Looking back I realize how weird this was, but frankly having to prove I was an adult to purchase a pair of scissors in the UK was a trip.

Like I regularly carried a swiss army knife on me until the age of like...23? Also yeah, my province in Canada is the weird one out because liquor stores are privately owned, versus many other provinces where they are run by the gov't.

Hey we can carry knives in Canada, unless they're butterfly knives, and you can't drink outside unless it's a designated space, and you can't sell liquor at a grocery store. But wait, let me tell you about Ireland, where you can't buy rubbing alcohol because of potential abuse.

butterfly knives were ok in michigan as long as you had some kind of safety on. which all my friends promptly removed...
