Civil service would be great, too bad I think I need to be an Irish citizen for that. Not sure about other public sector jobs. And yeah I know generally white collar jobs but I wonder if any businesses in particular like to hire PhDs I guess.

@StephenHewer would know better - you have to be a citizen to get in through the big open calls for particular grades on http://publicjobs.ie but not when you're applying directly for a specific job.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
I saw some posts that were IE only and some that were EU only. Those were public jobs. I also saw a secondary teacher post, but it had 'no visas' on it. Maybe you could get the job on a graduate scheme visa (1G) and then get sponsored after you're employed?

I mean that’s the plan, but I wouldn’t want to search forever for a job on the grad scheme work visa only to then have to look for another that would sponsor me. Plus I’m apprehensive about that grad scheme visa, apparently a lot of employers will not hire on it.

Are you going to play the academic job roulette as well, or just focus on 'real-world' jobs?

Yeah I want to have an academic job, but I need something that I can live on until I get that while I do postdoc apps and publications.

And ultimately a fall back plan if getting an academic job is impossible post-covid

Maybe Christina can get you some work with her? I can help with IRC app if you want.

Thanks, I’ll get your help with it when I will apply. I assume I need my viva results at least for it.

If things have not changed, then you will lose points. But if you wrote the BEST app ever, maybe?

Well I probably will wait then since I want to have the highest chance I can.
