I spent all of last night and today digging into the @sciencing_bi story, and was able to get the scientist at the center of this, BethAnn McLaughlin, on the record, as well as ASU and Twitter.https://gizmodo.com/science-twitter-got-catfished-by-a-fake-professor-who-d-1844591277 …

Replying to @EdCara4 @Sciencing_Bi
The only missing piece in your article is the person who claims to know the identity of another party who appeared to have access to that suspicious account in January. In effect was there collusion or is it better to just wrap it up and say just one person was to blame?

I looked into that claim seriously and asked BA about it point-blank, but she declined to comment! Without more evidence, which I'm happy to keep looking for, I just couldn't state one way or the other at this time

His supposed evidence was flimsy as all get-out. He was convinced another person had access to the
@sciencing_bi account because they liked and unliked a few tweets. And remember, he also originally told everyone it wasn’t BAM. Not an especially credible source IMO1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -
I disagree completely, he definitely said that he did not know of BAM's involvement but now believed that there was some form of collusion between the third party and BAM. I also believe his evidence especially since the third party has chosen to not respond to questions.

Further to that, he was transparent about his own identity and did not dox the third party despite his prior interactions. I am unwilling to dismiss his evidence because it has not been probed properly. If it had been scrutinized and found to be flawed, fair enough.

I wasn't convinced by his chain of evidence. He (cold?) contacted someone he thought was SB, using a pseudonym, and warned them that they were outing themselves by liking some of SB's tweets. The person told him to eff off, which he then viewed as confirmation. Slim.

They also turned their account to private after this exchange, which frankly I might have done as well because creepy. Especially since the tweet in question had to do with sex.

Which he also saw as confirmation.

There was more than one person who thought they ID’d SB from that stuff in January.
