My fellow early medieval Irish scholars, is there really much early evidence for the burial of kings in an ecclesiastical setting? Excluding kings who entered the clerical life. I’m not finding many early references, unless I’m missing them somehow. I see this stated as fact

This is may be not helpful, but a tidbit I came across in NMS Historic Environment Viewer. At the graveyard of the later Franciscan Friary in Athlone, there is a cross-inscribed slab perhaps belonging to a King of Connacht which may be from an older religious foundation.

Ah thanks. I suspect if there is a slab then it is later (according with other slabs at Glendalough and elsewhere), and I am at this stage trying to find anything pre-eighth century (as that is where the assumptions arise).
