I am very disappointed to see a lack of a mask mandate or even encouraging the wearing of masks inside the library. We know they help stop the spread, ESPECIALLY inside.https://twitter.com/tcddublin/status/1288852052815360001 …

@PhDRights @AbhiswetaBhatt1 @TrinityGSU @tcdsu @TCDSU_President honestly, why are we even entertaining the idea of no masks? This is seriously dangerous and I am upset that TCD isn’t advocating masks and that the SU and GSU aren’t pushing for it either.

The science shows masks are necessary. This only puts people at risk, given what we know about asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic spread.

And considering we have had very little guidance on anything regarding next term. They’re expecting TAs and staff to teach in person. How do they expect that to happen? Social distancing isn’t the only thing needed here when we know it is airborne.

Our classrooms are cramped, poorly ventilated. No windows. I’m not going to be teaching without a mask or anyone who shows up without a mask, but how is that going to be enforced?

This is really scary, it honestly is. And nothing about any of what is being done reassures me that students and staff aren’t being put at risk.

As we move closer and closer to the start of term and I’m seeing these tweets and emails, but really nothing about keeping the people who will actually be teaching/attending safe, it is so vicerally upsetting to me that I have to say something.

Masks drop transmission by 99%. That is the science. Stop with the hygiene theatre.

We love to boost Prof O’Neill and your man Prof Adrian Hill, but they advocate for masks so why isn’t @tcddublin following that advice? What exactly isn’t processing here?

Classes should be online since that mitigates a lot of risk but if you’re gonna force people to come to campus then you had better do everything in your power to make people safe.
