To your point about this being a race 101 talk this would be understandable if it was a race 101 talk but this was a talk about research. How are BIPOC scholars going to get their research out there if they are silenced in this way? This leads me to believe that this dept doesnt

Prior to the talk, I had thought it was to be a race 101 talk and that was why a white scholar had been invited. I think you are right.

I’m sorry to say but I don’t understand why anyone would think that, we all had the title for two weeks and Erik was asked well before then I suspect. His title makes it quite clear that it was a scholarly research paper.

In the discussion after my paper, there was a suggestion we needed a race 101 talk and someone should be invited to give it. I'm pretty sure that was the literal term used, though obviously I could be wrong.

No, not at all. I have no role organising the seminar. I am referring to the talk after my seminar paper - the informal bit after the Q&A - where Ruth asked everyone if they wanted more education in this area.
