As a linguist, this is a fascinating little snippet, to learn that seeds are coriander. I knew that North Americans referred to the herb as cilantro, while I called it coriander, but also danya (dhania) which is the Malay and south Asian word... Who 's heard of brinjal...? ;-)
You'd have to ask a Canadian what they call the plant, they may also call it coriander. But in the US the major use is in Mexican cooking and Mexico is our neighbor, so we use the Spanish word for the plant.
We say cilantro for the leaves, coriander for the seeds.
