I talk a lot about pet peeves on here but something that has recently come up in some baking groups is for people to just suggest to buy something. Like, already I hated advice like that because you never know someone’s financial/living situation but now even more so.

I’m trying to troubleshoot some issues with my breadmaking and I’ll always get a reply like “we’ll get a Dutch oven or a pizza stone!” Like don’t you think after all the effort I’ve been going through in making bread (it’s obvious from my posts) that I would have if I could have?

Another thing that annoys me, and it’s not really anyone’s fault, is advice that is very American-centric. So, the assumption to buy in bulk or having the vast variety of options at a store.

This is something I struggle with explaining to folks in North America every day. That I live in South Africa. I am on lockdown. No, I cannot just "walk to the store and buy a butter plate!" And I am not mad at the suggestion, just frustrated.

Lmao yeah. I get recommendations for even specific brands that are only even available in certain locations in the states too. Like you can’t even buy those everywhere in America, why tf do you think I can get that here? Sigh. They mean well but honestly.

Someone the other day told me to "just go to the target and pick up a webcam to get better camera quality for your lectures." Which, there aren't even any Targets in Canada. There sure as heck aren't any in South Africa. And I cannot leave my flat. There is just SO MUCH.

My constant mood is stuck between “I am a professional with grants from the us government for research on an incredibly specific topic, there for I shall act like one.” And “I HATE ALL OF YOU OH MY GOD.” That is the plague academic mood.
