While textual sources are thin for regular people, it’s a good reason to use other evidence such as archaeology to supplement.

I absolutely agree with you. The "girl power" gloss of history self-perpetuates in bad ways-- less education on common women means less scholarship on common women. I just think it is explicable given "lean in" feminism/capitalism and badly-diversified curricula.

Oh yeah absolutely. It drives me up the wall to see fellow scholars perpetuate this nonsense too, and I think it is an offshoot off corporate feminism for sure.
