Certain monarchs have bizarre cult followings - & not just the usual suspects, i.e. the openly monarchist band of aristocrats, reactionaries, & confused romantics, among others, all over Charles Stuart ‘the Martyr’.

The Charles cult has a respectable historically continuous pedigree! The Ricardian one is at least an amusing illegitimate Walpole offshoot. Actually has there been a book on such royal followings...? I’d love to read it and adore to write it

No idea. Not really my area studying the cult followings of rulers and I am an early medievalist so I wouldn’t know much about any of the later stuff.
