As someone who studies kingship and the idea of rulers to my fellow scholars who also study this stuff: why this incessant and persistent twee woobification of kings and queens?

My issue with stanning rulers from fellow scholars is that it puts these people on a pedestal. I don’t think people should stan anyone tbh. I also said, further down, that I am not saying people can’t find rulers interesting. I am criticizing the way I see people frame them here.

I see a lot of framing of medieval queens as feminist icons, which is massively not okay and I think is part of a wider trend of that sort of “girl boss” kind of feminism.

I think everyone needs critical distance to an extent, and I’m not quite sure what you are even talking about? And the fact you mention fandom in relation to this says a lot. Kings and queens shouldn’t have fandoms, and fandoms in general can be pretty terrible.
