The number of people I have seen adamantly and indignantly defending their use of soap in washing fruit and veg is worrying.

Honestly makes me feel better about my limited kitchen abilities. I can barely make pasta but at least I’m not Lysoling my apples

Seriously as well, even chemicals purposely designed for use on vegetables in industrial settings still leave a strange smell and/or taste. We used it on lettuce and it made it smell awful.

And this is why I'm cautious about potlucks. Blech

What worries me most is those handwashing statistics that keep coming up 69% of men and 30% of women ain't washing their hands when they go to the bathroom. I very much doubt they're doing it when they cook.

I'm amazed they never questioned why they hadn't done it before, and why when you wash a dirty potato before cooking it you still don't use soap. Maybe it's not done because it's utterly ridiculous.
